18TH C. TAI YAI BUDDHA

This fine example of a bronze Tai Yai buddha has a wonderful varigated multicolored burial patina.  It was originally donated to a temple, and has a hand carved donor's inscription in Pali on the back.  It is virtually an archetype of this style.  The Tai Yai people, as are the Tai Lue, are  descendents of the Tai who originated in central and eastern China, and migrated mostly to Burma in the Shan State area.  He stands 12.5 inches high, and condition is very good to excellent, with only the tiny nick in the base visible in the picture.  This is one of the best examples I have seen.
